- After installing the game and firing it up, it crashes for me when the INIT RENDERING is initializing.
It was previously installed and run on this computer (WINDOWS VISTA) but I've reset the system a couple times so I needed to reinstall the game. I ran the installer on my laptop, and it DID pick up the new DX9 files. (It won't run Civ4 for other reasons, but the DX installer worked.) How do I Log in Forgotten Your Password? http://1pxcare.com/failed-to/directx-8-failed-to-initialize.html I unchecked theread only box from both files and the problem was fixed.I then was able to change the aspect ratio and resolution and the changeswere saved.
permalinkembedsaveparentgive gold[–]DaimyoNoNeko 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago(6 children)That is what I meant. I get the message "Failed to Initialize Renderer - Check DirectX Version and Graphics Settings", then Civ craps to the desktop and everyone runs slow as molasses until you reboot. The drivers were only released 15 days ago, so most likely Firaxis wasn't able to pick up the problem.
