In my case just after installing the software on my Vista laptop (ie remote shooting has never worked and I haven't updated anything since the installation of the Canon software). I can gphoto to get a little further by immediately running gphoto after plugging the camera into the computer, but that works once if I'm lucky. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=473744

I did notice that when the camera is turned off, after being triggered by gphoto2, the flip out LCD often shows "Recording... I removed gphoto2* and libgphoto2* add /usr/local/lib and the error is unfortunately the same.
As a sanity check, these are the correct repositories?
