However, you shouldn't be seeing kernel segfaults when ProFTPd is starting, that indicates a really odd problem :-) Are you by chance low on RAM? It was removed pre 9.2.1 I believe.. I'm guessing it's because it doesn't have read/write access to the dataset or it can't find the dataset.
